The Czech-American Duo

The Czech-American Horn Duo, Steven Gross and Jiri Havlik, premiered “Aphelion,” a work for two horns and string orchestra, with the Symphony of the Vines under the direction of Dr. Greg Magie in USA, University of Santa Barbara January 28 with th great acclaim. The composer, Daniel Baldwin, attended the performance. (Aphelion is the point in the orbit of a planet or a comet at which it is farthest from the sun.) Following this event, Steve and Jirí performed at the Northwest Horn Symposium at the University of Oregon. The Duo’s premiere recording is available on Summit Records. Joined by Czech Philharmonic hornist Jiří Havlík, the accompanying orchestra is the Camerata Filarmonica Bohemia of Prague. The recording features duo horn concerti of Joseph Reicha, Antonio Rosetti, Frantisek Vaclav Habermann, and Joseph Haydn.
