Hello, welcome at the summer international orchestral academy
Filarmonietta Praga 2020!

This musical event is one week intensive course of playing in the orchestra. It gives the opportunity of orchestral experience to young musicians, future professionals, but also to enthusiastic amateurs of all age categories. Under coaching of experienced professional players, members of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and their guests, you can spend one week of intensive orchestral studies in the atmosphere of summer Prague, one of the European leading musical centers, and one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The played repertory is selected from the “pure jewels” of the Czech orchestral music in combination with other attractive pieces of the world’s music “treasure”.

The festival orchestra is a full symphony, and it provides a good opportunity for participants to learn and perform Classical Czech music on a high level. Several of the principals are professionals, employed by the Czech Philharmonic orchestra and other professional orchestras in the country. The conductor, Jiří Havlík, is a French horn player in the Czech Philharmonic, so for all participants who come from other countries, it should be interesting and beneficial to perform the great Czech composers such as Dvořák, Smetana, Janáček, Martinů, etc., the way they are played in the Czech Republic. One should allow half a day (every day) for participation in the orchestra (or a full day if choosing only orchestra). This may include sectional rehearsals, all strings, all winds, and the complete orchestra. A list of the works planned will be given to participants with ample time to study and prepare the parts before arriving in Prague.

Orchestra offers one week program in Prague. The program contains three self-standing works: Two of them will be performed in cooperation with Prague Chamber Ballet, in Pavel Smok’s choreography: Leoš Janáček – Along the Overgrown Path, Antonín Dvořák – The Wild Dove op. 110. Two renown and outstanding soloists – one of the Czech Republic and one from Japan, living in Prague will perform Martinu double concerto. It will be celebration of 100 anni

Furthermore, musical studies will be accompanied by the possibilities of sightseeing at the most famous historical and cultural places of Prague and its surrounding.

Monday, August 17 – Sunday, August 24, 2020
Pondělí 17. srpna – neděle 24. srpna

One week masterclasses of playing in the orchestra, which takes place in Prague during the last week in July and the last week in August.

Activities take place at the Jan Hanus Music School (a short walk from the hostel or hotel), where there are numerous studios, plus a concert hall available for studies and practice. There are several performance dates, including several outside the school, in some prestigious concert venues in Prague and vicinity. On several evenings there are master classes and/or lectures.

The participation is opened for all instruments (strings, winds and percussions) within so-called “early/mid-romantic orchestra”. The participation is a subject to so called “correspondently audition”, based on sending of personal recording before the registration. The daily program will consist of orchestral rehearsals and sectional trainings of orchestral parts with professional faculty/coaches. Studied program will be performed at two public concerts. Singers are welcomed to attend and perform with the orchestra at the last concert.

The Academy is opened for participants of middle and higher performing levels without age limits.

At the end, all participants will receive Summer Academy Filarmonietta Praga 2020 Alumni Diploma.

There are several programs taking place simultaneously. Therefore students can also participate in some form of chamber music. While participating in the Orchestral Program, you may not participate in any more than two chamber music groups.
