Jiří Havlík

Jiří Havlík is a member of the Czech Philharmonic orchestra since 1979. He studied French horn and composition at Prague Conservatory and at the Academy of Musical Arts in Prague. He won several prizes at international music competitions (Concertino Praga, The Prague Spring), as well as Special Award of the Czech Ministry of Culture for the composition and performance.

He is actively engaged in solo and chamber music, teaching work, conducting and composition. Is known for his compositions such as Concerto for Horn and Strings, Three Fugues for Three French Horns and Piano, or a piano cycle titled (Anti)Claviernesses.

Co-founder / co-organizer of the “Hornclass” and “The Prague Horn” international music festival in Czech Republic. In 1991-1992 he was member of artistic board in Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, in 1997-2007 managing director and faculty of “Ameropa” International Chamber Music Festival. Since 2006 faculty, conductor and artistic adviser of the international music festival “ChamberArt” in Madrid (Spain), and chairman of “Terezin International Music Center” (TIMUC) in Czech Republic.

In 2002, Jiří founded chamber orchestra “Camerata filarmonica Bohemia”, whose he is an artistic leader, and is also active as a permanent conductor of “Benda Chamber Orchestra” in Usti nad Labem. Beside of co-operartion with Czech orchestras and choirs, his recent abroad conducting & solo playing appearances included also Germany, Holland, Spain, USA and Japan. Solo horn recital was recorded and introduced 2008 in Japan, more of by him conducted CDs were published in Czech Republic and also in USA.
