Jan VobořilJan Vobořil (born 1972) currently holds the position of Principal /Solo Horn in the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra and Solistes Europeéns Luxemburg. He is also the leader of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra Horn Section. He is a graduate of the Brno Conservatoire (having studied with Professor František Psota) and the Prague Academy of Music and Arts (a student of the legendary Professor Zdeněk Tylšar). Jan is a First Prize winner of five national competitions (including the 1990 Janáček Competition of Artistic Interpretation /Brno, the 1990 National Festival Competition of Music Conservatoires /Roudnice nad Labem and the 1995 National Horn Competition of the Czech and Slovak Republics). He was also awarded the title of Overall Competition Winner on three occasions. On an international level, Jan received honorary awards of recognition at the 1992 Prague Spring International Music Competition and the 1993 International Horn Competition in Geneva, Switzerland. He has also taken part in performance courses in Germany (1995 /Jeunesses Musicales Nordrhein-Westfalen /Hinterschmiding, 1989/90 /Internationales Jugend-Festspieltreffen /Bayreuth) and Switzerland (1993 /European Summer Academy of the Hindemith Foundation /Blonay).

In 1991 Jan performed in many European cities with the Gustav Mahler Jugend Orchester under the direction of Claudio Abbado. In the same year he was appointed the position of Principal /Solo Horn in the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra. During the years 1994 – 2004 Jan held the position of Principal /Solo Horn in the Prague Philharmonia. In addition he performs regularly with the Prague Chamber Orchestra.

As a soloist, Jan has performed both at home and abroad (Europe, Japan, USA) with orchestras including the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra, Prague Symphony Orchestra, Prague Philharmonia, Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, Bavarian Youth Orchestra, Brno Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, Prague Chamber Orchestra,  Orchestra d’Harmonie Nice etc.. Jan as a soloist has also recorded for Czech Radio and Television, German ARD Television, Radio Luxembourg and numerous international record labels including Supraphon, Octavia Records (Japan) and the British Classicprint label. Jan is a member of the Prague Wind Quintet (many performances in Europe and United Arabic Emirates ), Czech Philharmonic Horn Quartet /Octet and the Czech Horn Quartet (over twenty solo performances of Schumann Konzertstück for Four Horns in Europe).

Recently Jan has made several solo /chamber music CD recordings with Radek Baborák (Principál /Solo Horn in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra) for the Japanese label Octavia Records. He also completed a tour of Japan with Radek Baborák and the Berlin Philharmonic String Quartet. In 2010 Jan performed the Schumann Konzertstück for Four Horns with the Czech Philharmonic Horn Quartet (Ist Horn) and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of John Elliot Gardiner. In 2011 and 2012 he performed solo concerts in the Gasteig Concert Hall in Munich and in 2013 Jan performed four solo concerts with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Since 2011 Jan has become a regular guest performer as Principal Horn with the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra.
