Alberto Rodríguez Acuña | Spain
Born in Caibarien (Cuba), Alberto Rodriguez studied the clarinet in Santa Clara Province Conservatory, then at the National School of the Arts in Havana. He pursued post-graduate studies at the Superior Academy of the Musical Arts in Prague while specializing in music education, psychology and teaching methodology, then concluded his post-graduate studies in Brno (Czech Republic). Rodriguez has taught at Havana Municipal Conservatory and at the Cuban National School of the Arts.
He was appointed to the faculty of Havana Superior Institute of the Arts and served as the Cuban Ministry of Culture’s national advisor in clarinet education, also presiding the jury in national clarinet competitions. Rodriguez has taught master classes in Cuba, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, the UK, France and Spain.
Apart from having served on the jury of numerous international competitions, he was a member of Cuba’s National Symphonic Orchestra (Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional) and orchestral soloist at the Great Theater, Opera and Ballet of Havana. In the Czech Republic he played solo clarinet at the Mozart Opera (Prague) and also co-founded the orchestra’s wind ensemble at the same Opera house.
He also played as soloist of the Czech „Bohemia“ Symphonic Orchestra, going on tour to Austria, Italy, Germany, France, Slovakia, Poland, Russia, the Ukraine, Latvia, Bulgaria, the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands. Rodriguez now lives and works in Madrid, where he has founded the „Recital“ Clarinet Quartet. He not only founded, but also directs the Madrid Clarinet Ensemble and the Madrid Chamber Soloists Orchestra.
He is one of the founding professors of the „Julian Menendez International Clarinet Courses“ and of the „Spanish Association for Study and Development of the Clarinet“. He regularly gives master-classes at the AMEROPA International Chamber Music Courses and Festival (in the Czech Republic).
He taught superior grade clarinet at the University “Francisco de Vitoria” in Madrid  until 2012.
 Alberto is currently president of the Madrid Chamber Music Association and has served as artistic director for an ongoing series of annual international chamber music courses: „Boccherini 2005“, „Mozartissimo 2006“ and „CHAMBERart“ from 2007 till now.
Nowadays he works as a clarinet teacher and chamber music teacher in the “Centro Superior de Música Katarina Gurska” in Madrid, and clarinet teacher at the “Escuelas Municipales de Musica” of the Madrid town hall, and conductor of the “El Capricho” orchestra in Madrid.
